Cuneiform

The form of writing/recording the Mesopotamians used was called cuneiform. Daily events, astronomy, trade and literature were recorded by scribes on clay tablets. This writing system was invented by the Sumerians around 3500 BC because they believed in education. Cuneiform became the written language around 5000 BCE. When the Sumerian people population began to decline other cultures still used the symbols in cuneiform.
